The Many Faces of the Beloved

Nature is whole and complete and so are we as human beings attached to this interconnected web of life. Often what we see and how we interact with the other mirrors our internal world. Many times we are subconsciously projecting our inner world onto the outer and in this process we are in a way choosing what we see, which may be partly truth and partly not. This project came about as an investigation of me (the artist) as the observer and how I choose to see what I’m encountering.

In order to investigate this theme, I selected one of my photos that I had taken while neighbourhood walking on the North Shore, as the subject of a series of paintings. This photograph was painted multiple times, thereby creating many different rendering of the same subject matter. This series of paintings aim to show the many internal perceptions of the observer that emerged each time this photograph was painted.

This project came to be a visual interpretation of multiple perspectives that can emerge through passage of time.
